Bodybuilder Chris Dickerson.
Bodybuilder Chris Dickerson won the Mr. Olympia title in 1982 at
the age of 42. At the time, this was unheard of since the sport was
dominated by Ironheads in their 20’s. In addition to his 1982 Mr.
Olympia win, bodybuilder Chris Dickerson won nine other top IFBB pro
titles during the late ‘70s and early ‘80s, establishing him as one
of the most successful bodybuilders during the golden years of
bodybuilding. Considered a renaissance man by today’s standards as
well as a top pro bodybuilder, Chris Dickerson is also a
accomplished opera singer. Singer first, Chris studied music
throughout his life from when he teen, and is still an accomplished
opera singer today who has cut several record albums singing in both
Italian and German.
Watching Chris Dickerson’s 1982 Mr. Olympia posing routine to the
Dionne Warwick song “I’ll Never Love This Way Again” was
electrifying! That night you just knew that you were in the presence
of greatness, watching this 42 year old bodybuilding champion put
his heart and soul into his craft, all along knowing full well that
he would be victorious and win the most prestigious title in
bodybuilding, Mr. Olympia. In April 1983 Chris Dickerson was the
first bodybuilder featured on the premier cover of Flex Magazine.
Long over do, in the year 2000 Chris Dickerson was inducted into Joe
Weider’s Bodybuilding Hall Of Fame. Bodybuilder Chris Dickerson’s
competitive career spans over 30 years. Competing in over 50
contests since 1965. Over the past 3 decades, Chris has built one of
the most dense, thick and symmetrical physiques ever seen on the
posing dais, topped off by a dramatic posing style that rivals
master poser Ed Corney.
I met bodybuilder Chris Dickerson in 1982 at Gold’s Gym in Venice
CA. He had just won the Mr. Olympia contest and had his own office
upstairs on Hampton drive where he sold Tee shirts, wraps, gloves
and signed photos. When I walked into the office, sitting behind his
desk on the phone was Mr. Olympia himself. Chris waived me in and
signaled me to close the door. Sitting there I realized, here I am,
just a kid in Gold’s Gym waiting for Mr. Olympia to get off the
phone, how cool is this! This would be the start of my professional
bodybuilding career. Chris finished up his call, stood up from
behind his desk and introduced himself. We talked for about an hour
about everything from training to dieting and everything in-between.
I’ll never forget that day.
